Youngpool Technology L-900 Automatic Splicing Machine | An Intelligent SMT Tape Splicing Solution Compatible with Multiple Tape Specifications
May 08, 2026
During the SMT manufacturing process, the stability of tape splicing directly affects the continuous operation of the SMT production line. As high-mix, low-volume production becomes increasingly common, it is now more frequent for SMT lines to handle carrier tapes of various widths, including 8mm, 12mm, 16mm, and 24mm simultaneously. As a result, the compatibility of splicing equipment with multiple tape specifications has become an important factor influencing both splicing efficiency and quality.
In traditional manual tape splicing operations, operators typically need to adjust the splicing position and handling method based on experience when dealing with tapes of different widths. Under high-frequency material changeover conditions, the consistency of manual operation can easily be affected by operator proficiency and fatigue, increasing the risk of splice position deviation, tape feeding abnormalities, and other issues that may impact placement continuity.
To address the application requirements of multi-specification carrier tapes, Youngpool Technology independently developed the L-900 Automatic Splicing Machine, which supports tape splicing for 8mm, 12mm, 16mm, and 24mm carrier tapes, while also being compatible with both paper and plastic carrier tapes. This enables the machine to cover most common electronic material types used on SMT production lines.
The L-900 Automatic Splicing Machine adopts an automatic rail width adjustment design. Operators only need to select the tape specification and pitch parameters on the touchscreen interface, and the equipment can automatically adjust the rail width within the 8–24mm range. In high-mix production environments involving multiple tape specifications, this design helps reduce the operational burden caused by frequent manual adjustments, enabling smoother switching between different materials.
In addition to wide tape compatibility, the L-900 Automatic Splicing Machine supports a maximum pocket depth of 9mm. In applications involving thicker components or special packaging types, insufficient pocket depth may affect feeder tape feeding stability. A wider compatibility range therefore enhances the machine’s adaptability to complex materials while reducing additional manual handling procedures.
Meanwhile, the L-900 is equipped with a standard intelligent vision system and supports automatic empty tape detection and automatic tape cutting. During the automated splicing process, the equipment can maintain stable control over the splice position, reducing inconsistencies caused by manual judgment and repetitive operations, thereby helping improve splice consistency and feeder pass performance. For SMT production lines requiring long-term continuous operation, more stable splicing quality also helps reduce feeder alarms, component loss, and other issues caused by abnormal splicing.
As SMT manufacturing continues to evolve toward high-mix and high-throughput production, tape splicing equipment is no longer merely a simple auxiliary tool. Its compatibility and level of automation are becoming increasingly important factors affecting overall production line efficiency. Designed around the requirements of multi-specification tape compatibility and stable splicing performance, the Youngpool Technology L-900 Automatic Splicing Machine provides SMT production lines with a more flexible and intelligent tape splicing solution.
